Scotland's Sporting Chance Manifesto Launch

Posted on Wednesday, 03 February 2010 11:21AM by Alan G Murray
The Scottish Water Ski Association were delighted to be at the launch of Scotland's Sporting Chance a manifesto for sport in Scotland. The launch held at the Apex Hotel in Edinburgh on Tuesday 2nd February 2010 saw various Scottish athletes and MSPs from the four major Scottish political parties along with representation from the architects of the manifesto, Scottish Sporting Alliance, in attendance. The event hosted by the Scottish Sports Association and chaired by Chris Robison was well attended by the press and media. Scott Hastings a legend in World Rugby gave a very emotive overview of the manifesto calling for the Government to get behind this document and make it happen. Our own Nicole Arthur took pride of place on the front cover of the manifesto, a fitting image for an excellent document which hopes to influence and give guidance to the political agenda prior to the summer elections. Isla Banerji from Dunfermline represented SWSA / waterskiscotland along with Dougie Kempsell (Squash), Cameron Milne (Triathlete), Kay Adams (Curler). The four athletes presented a copy to each of the MSPs who in turn gave a brief speech outlining their commitment to the implementation of the manifesto. This launch will be followed by an evening reception at the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday 9th February 2010. The expected coverage of this second event will surely get this subject on the Political agenda. Isla Banerji will once again represent waterskiing as the face of new talent coming through the ranks. I have attached two photos of this prestigious event  one with Isla standing beside the launch display, the other is of the official press release, Ross Finnie Lib/Dem MSP, Frank McAveety Labour MSP, Chris Robison SSA,  Scott Hasting ex. Rugby Star, Liz Smith Conservative MSP and Michael Matheson SNP MSP. I have also attached a copy of the manifesto for your interest. As a sport we should be delighted with the media exposure that these events will give us, personally I am particularly pleased with the commitment and acknowledgment that the Scottish Sporting Association and Alliance has shown towards us. Alan G Murray, National Co-ordinator
