Mike Appleford RIP

Posted on Monday, 21 September 2009 10:38AM by Alan G Murray
It is with greast sadness that I have to advise of the recent death of Mike Appleford who lost a brave fight against cancer on August 18th 2009...... For those of you who were not familiar with Mike he was a prominent member and skier competing successfully with the GB team for the disabled in every part of the World. He was a reliable team member who could always pull out the stops when needed to gain team points. As an individual in the international scene he was a World & European Champion , despite his disability he competed regularly with able bodied skiers and surprised a few of them with his natural ability. He loved the big stage atmosphere and gave many a heart stopping moment in his attempts to jump World Record distances.

With his own brand of Scottish wit, unflagging energy, true friendship and occasional controversy he was always good for a few beers and a good night out.

On a personal note, I drove for Mike at many high level events and as a fellow Scot we had a bond that benefitted us both. Mike would advise me on what style of a drive he needed and I tried to advise him on his skiing, altogether a good relationship.

He will be sadly missed………….n632609713_4292.jpg
